This is an insert from John Robinson's email;
I was unable to schedule something this fall but UMMC is scheduling a major exercise with the MS Air Guard the last week of February and has invited us to participate. It isn’t finalized yet but let me know if you would like to attend.
I am planning on us have a 3 day exercise in April. The plan is to have one day of training in Oxford and then move somewhere, setup and receive, treat, and discharge patients. Stay overnight and pack up the following day. The objective being to work out our patient handling procedures from admissions to discharge. Hopefully we can gain some insight observing UMMC’s exercise.

Sounds good. I look forward to more training and setting up. One of these days it will be for real and we need to be ready.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteAmateur Radio Training for SMAT has been scheduled. (Clay, could you post this as a primary entry?)
ReplyDeleteThe University of MS Amateur Radio Club (UMARC) will be conducting two VE sessions and a Tech License Class.
Sunday, November 15 at 1400 to 1600. We will have an amateur radio VE exam session.
Saturday, December 12 from 0900 to 1600. We will have a one day Amateur Radio Technician Class License class.
Saturday, December 12 from 1600 to 1800. We will have a VE Test Session following the Technician Class.
Both sessions above will be held at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi in the Cafeteria Conference Room in Oxford, MS.
Study guides can be purchased at www.arrl.org look for the catalog session. The study guide provides all information required to pass the Technician Class License and all questions & answers in the current question pool. QRZ.com has an online test where you can check your knowledge by taking the test online. Amateur radio license exams must be conducted in person, you cannot get a license online. There are also many resources online that can be found on a web search.
From the arrl.org web site
What do I need to bring to an exam session?
Exam sessions are conducted by volunteers working under the direction of the FCC. There will likely be a charge for taking the exam. There is no FCC fee for an initial license, or standard changes to a license. However, there are fees for other FCC services. The exam fee is set by the local exam administrator, the Volunteer Exam Coordinator (VEC), and is usually $15 or less. Contact the exam session administrator to determine the fee that applies to the exam session you plan to attend.
Bring a picture ID (drivers license, passport) OR, when no photo ID is available, two forms of identification must be presented (birth certificate, report card, library card, Social Security card, utility bill, bank statement, etc.). Students may bring a school ID, and/or a written note from a legal guardian. To be prepared you should also bring two number two pencils with erasers and a pen. A calculator with the memory erased is allowed. You may not bring any written notes or calculations into the exam session.
We look forward to assisting you in obtaining your Amateur Radio License.
Thank you

To SMAT Team
There will be a one day meeting for the NORAC SMAT team February 6th
at 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM at the Oxford Conference Center. We will be taught the use
of the Salamander System (patient and staff tracking system) and walk
through using it in a table top exercise. I have attached a flow
chart of how it might work. (The flow chart is in the files section of
the group)
I will provide breakfast and lunch on the 6th.
If you will need a room the night before please let me know.
We will also be planning our exercise in April or May.
For those who have not been measured for uniforms etc. we will take
this opportunity to do so.
Clay can you contact our Salamander Trainer?
