June 16-19 2014 Training Excercise

We are in the planning stages of conducting an exercise 16-19 June 2014 in Oxford. The exercise with be in conjunction with BMH-NM, BMH-Desoto, and BMH-Union County (we hope) and will follow the basic scenario of patients from BMH-NM being evacuated to MED2 and then further evacuated to other facilities. The city of Oxford and Lafayette County will also play by providing support to the hospital for the evacuation and transportation.

Attached is the revised training schedule for the June Exercise. The major change is a class on Incident Command. Only those who volunteer for the following command positions need to attend although everyone is welcome.

Public Information Officer, Safety Officer, Liaison Officer, Operations Chief, Planning Chief, Logistics Chief, Finance/ Admin. Chief, Medical Branch Director, Facilities Director

One of the objectives of this exercise is to learn how to operate using the Incident Command System (ICS). Rooms for the night of the 16th are available.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE ATTENDING THE EXERCISE IN WHOLE OF IN PART IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO. ALSO LET ME KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER FOR THE ADDITIONAL TRAINING. WE REALLY NEED MORE THAN ONE PERSON FOR EACH POSITION.

I will be blocking off rooms for the nights of 17 and 18 June, so I need to know who will be needing a room (MED2 with pay for them). If you cannot attend all three days, please let me know what days you can participate.

I hope to see you at the exercise; I think you will find it interesting.

I REALLY NEED AS MUCH PARTICIPATION AS POSSIBLE!

Lastest Updates

Based on information received from the National Weather Service this morning the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has decided to take a "stand down with a heightened awareness stance" in regards to Invest 92L. This means although the state of Mississippi is not expected to take a direct hit everyone should closely monitor the storm for any changes. The coastal areas of the state may be impacted with increased rainfall over the next few days so flooding is a possibility and should be monitored locally. Please take this time to prepare your family (pets included) for any disaster that may happen such as tornadoes, flooding, winter storms, earthquakes, etc. Also begin discussing with your family about your possible deployment with the State Medical Response System should the need arise. Thank you for your continued interest in the State Medical Response System!

THe May Exercise 2012

The May exercise was a success!

Several groups attended and gained a great deal of information and techniques from other teams.  Teams worked together to build tents, electrical processes, gather information about command trailers, IT technology, and patient bed assemblies. Tuesday was completed with the facility being overtaken by the medical tents and other medical equipment. Wednesday started at 7:00 with patient flow processes and continued through the hot day until 17:00. Thursday was the ending day for patient flow followed by disassembly of tents and other medical equipment. Friday completed the exercise with a Hot Wash meeting and recovery.

Can’t wait till the next event!
